A love letter to the Philippines, made to be worn today.

what is baybayin

Baybayin is one of the Philippines’ most enduring cultural treasures. It is a pre colonial writing system that once flowed across bamboo manuscripts, palm leaves and everyday communication. Its graceful curves carried not only words but also the rhythm and soul of the islands.

When the Spaniards arrived in the 16th century they brought the Latin alphabet and Catholic teachings. In time Baybayin was gradually displaced and relegated to the margins of history. Yet even as it faded from common use the script was never completely lost. It remained preserved in old documents, artifacts and collective memory, waiting for its moment to return

That moment is now. Baybayin is experiencing a revival embraced by a new generation seeking to reconnect with heritage. From visual art and tattoo culture to fashion and jewelry it is re emerging as a powerful emblem of identity and pride.

San Palma carries this revival forward with intention. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted by Filipino artisans and inspired by the elegance of Baybayin’s forms. By casting these symbols in thick layers of 18k gold vermeil, San Palma transforms history into modern heirlooms. The ethos is clear: to preserve artisanal tradition, to honor the cultural past and to bring ancient beauty into contemporary life.

Baybayin once recorded love, prayer and history. Today through San Palma it shines again, a golden reminder of who we are and the stories we continue to tell.
